Educated Youth on the Black Soil

On the wastelands of the Heilongjiang Production and Construction Corps, young people sent to support the border set down their luggage and picked up their hoes. They reclaimed and defended the land, while protecting the frontier. They put down roots in this black soil, sowing in spring and harvesting in autumn, training through the coldest days of winter. In company barracks, communal homes, and between the fields, they made a life out of the most authentic days of Corps life. There are no golden fingers or face-slapping comeback plots, only work points, furrows, oil lamps, and fellow soldiers, and the everyday lives of a group of people spending their youth protecting the border. This is an authentic novel about life among the youth sent to support the Corps, recreating the real years of the educated youth in the Great Northern Wilderness. Readers who prefer overpowered wish-fulfillment stories and face-slapping comebacks can move right along. Those who love authentic historical period novels and want to learn about the lives of young people sent to support the border are welcome to read on.
