The Ferocious Tiger Company of Southern Xinjiang, 1979

War flames spread across the southern frontier, and blood and courage forge loyalty. In 1979, the Sino-Vietnamese self-defensive counterattack began. On the western front, artillery roared without pause, laying waste to the land and its people. The Tiger Company was ordered into battle, facing deadly ambushes in the jungle, brutal tunnel-clearing operations, and grueling long-range assaults. With their own flesh and blood, they built a shield for the southern frontier. Company commander Zhou Weiguo was stern on the outside but tender within. He had to balance the cool resolve of directing combat with the guilt and heartache he felt over his comrades' casualties. Recruit Sun Hao grew from a bewildered boy who was too afraid to shoot, his hands trembling, into a hardened warrior capable of standing on his own. Nurse Zhang Fang shed her sheltered softness amid the bombardment, protecting her comrades' lives with gentle hands. War is merciless: it took the brothers who fought shoulder to shoulder, but it could never take away their resolve to defend their homeland. The years leave their marks, preserving the memory of the bloody battles and, even more, the deep bonds forged in life and death. The story brings to life real episodes from the war, including the rescue of overseas Chinese, the assault on the Old Street, and the decisive battle at Shaba. It delivers both the spectacle of vast battle scenes and the impact of finely drawn emotion. Understand the Tiger Company's perseverance, and you will understand the responsibility and commitment of Chinese soldiers.
