A Smile Before the Block

An ambiguous romance that began at a mahjong table and ended with a smile just before he was blocked. After his divorce, A Mo drifted through life until he met Lai Chun at the White Tile Mahjong Parlor. Her smile and her words, “You learn fast,” became a lifeline for a man drowning in his own life. From a [moon] emoji on WeChat to a kiss in a car on a rainy night, they thought they were each other's salvation. A Mo poured his passion and savings into building a love nest outside the walls of her marriage, while Lai Chun made all the rules: steal time together, delete the records, and keep their lives strictly separate. He thought it was love. Then, on a rainy night, he watched her climb into a black SUV with practiced ease. The license plate, “Zhe B·720,” felt like a cruel curse, crushing three years of illusions. The cruelest part came when his phone lit up moments later. There was no explanation, only the most ordinary, formal [smile] emoji from her. The emoji that had once said good night became the coldest final verdict before she blocked him. It turned out that three years of “love” had been nothing but “emotional compensation.” He gave her his heart and his savings; she gave him fleeting tenderness and endless lies. When a more “cost-effective” option appeared, a single smile erased him and their entire past. The game had been destined to end all along. He had bet everything, yet never even heard a proper goodbye.
