[Supernatural Horror + Ancient Tomb Mysteries + Twists + Tomb-Raiding Adventure]
When Lin Yue was twenty-eight, he returned to his old family home to sort through his grandfather's belongings and prepare to sell the house, which had stood empty for three years.
Among his grandfather's effects, he found an old book with a cover of kraft paper and three characters on it: The Dragon-Seizing Formula. A line of small print on the title page said it had been compiled by comparing water veins with the original text of Yang Yun-song's Dragon-Seizing Classic from the Tang dynasty. The book contained no written words, but records of feng shui formations surveyed by three generations of the Lin family. Every page pointed to the same place: the basement beneath the family hall, which had never been opened.
His father disappeared there thirty years ago. His grandfather died there thirty years ago. His great-grandfather's bones have never been found.
That night, Lin Yue stayed in the old house and woke at midnight to the sound of dripping water. A water stain on the kitchen ceiling took on the outline of a human face. Its mouth opened and spoke three words: I'm waiting for you. The next day, Lin Yue discovered that writing had begun appearing on the blank pages of the Dragon-Seizing Formula by itself. It was in his own handwriting, recording events that had yet to happen. The final page read: At midnight on September 15, open the door and go inside. The one she's waiting for is you.
He pushed open the basement door and entered a world crisscrossed by underground rivers. There was a village submerged for a hundred years, a woman who had lived for three hundred years, and someone who looked exactly like him. That person said, "You should have come down here when you were eight. I lived your life for twenty years in your place. Now it's your turn."
But Lin Yue soon discovered there was more than one truth. Hidden in that underground river was the secret guarded by three generations of the Lin family: a secret about Yang Yun-song, the Tang dynasty's founding feng shui master, and the "severed dragon vein" that should never have come into this world.
I love this book, but the plot is not very good and the pace is not very good either.
