[Original Character] [Lagrange Fanfiction]
The stars had once fallen into ruin, reduced to burning meteorites.
Once, people set the galaxy ablaze. The star systems seemed to be utterly consumed, with flames called war raging everywhere and burning everything to ash.
Only after the flames had devoured all they could, fading at last into pale ashes and bringing everything to a complete end, did people realize how foolish they had been.
The branches of knowledge that carried technology had been burned to charred husks. No one knew how to pass on the knowledge that carried information. The spark called civilization was about to go out, because the fury of war had consumed every last bit of fuel for moving forward.
People in tattered clothes stood atop the wreckage, gazing up at the enormous ruins slowly turning between the orbits.
Those creations had once been homes, palaces, and sources of pride.
A child pointed a dirty finger at the remains of a gaseous planet crumbling in the distance.
“We used to be happy, didn’t we?” someone asked.
“We... seem to have ruined everything,” someone said.
When the children asked the elders, the only ones who remembered the old age, “Where did we come from, and where are we going?”
All the elders could do was hunch their backs and gaze at the ruins with eyes full of regret.
Many people struggled to rekindle the flame, but in the end, they were like mayflies trying to shake a tree, and returned to dust.
They dug up the graves of the old age, sucked the marrow from its dry bones, and clung to life by feeding on it.
When the last elder who remembered the past was laid beneath a gravestone, no one knew of that once-glorious era anymore.
Perhaps.
Perhaps someday in the future, someone will still remember to look up, and be willing to wager every last day of their wretched existence for a glimpse of an aurora they have never seen.
May
the aurora appear again, and the sea of stars shine forever.
It's very interesting. I want to support the author. I've read two other books by him.
