The Faint Embers of the Apocalypse

The Eaters of Darkness gnaw at the remains of civilization.

Chen Shi, a former emergency physician with an infected left hand, is trapped in the darkness of a quarantine zone. As order crumbles, he dissects fear with the precision of a surgeon and uses mathematical models to calculate every chance of survival.

Before fully mutating, a virologist presses a bloodstained notebook into his hands:

“This isn't a plague... It's a ‘purification.’ Professor Lin's research at the observatory is humanity's last spark.”

Carrying this heavy responsibility, he sets out on a journey home through hell with a nurse who was bitten but never transformed.

The Eaters of Darkness, cannibal gangs, remnants of the military... Every step tests the limits of human nature. He has abandoned a crying child, and he's also picked up a bloodstained weapon.

When he finally makes it home and embraces his wife and children in an aerial fortress, cold reality immediately shatters their brief moment of warmth:

Supplies are gone, the wounded are moaning, and regular tapping sounds come from the rooftop. It isn't a call for help, but the overture to a hunt.

An even deeper darkness is descending.

The Eaters of Darkness are beginning to work together, forming nests. A mysterious “hive” signal blankets the sky, while the observatory's response is always dead silence and static.

The virus is evolving, and the Eaters of Darkness are forming a society.

Humanity, meanwhile, has retreated to its last corner.

Chen Shi must choose: hold fast to this crumbling fortress and wait for rescue that may never come, or lead a dozen elderly people, women, and children into the unfathomable darkness to search for the “Ark,” which may not even exist?

The embers are dying. The long night has no light.

And in the depths of utter despair, they must learn to burn again.
