The Entire Court Fled, So I Begged the Empress to Let Me Die

(The new book has just started getting ratings, so they’re low for now. They’ll go up later, so don’t let that scare you off.) [Parallel World + Empress + Deliberately Courting Death + Transmigration + Political Intrigue + Twists + Light Comedy] He transmigrated and was bound to a Loyal Subject System. The System said: Be loyal to the Empress. After performing the deeds of a loyal subject, die and you can go home with five billion. Chen He looked at the puppet Empress, whose power had been seized by the Empress Dowager, then at the timid officials filling the court. He smiled. How hard could it be? At court the next morning, he openly berated the Empress Dowager for her tyranny and was promptly thrown into the imperial prison. On the third day, rebel forces reached the city. The court fled south en masse, and the Empress Dowager handed him the suicidal assignment of staying behind to defend Ye City. Chen He accepted the appointment and thought: Defend the city? Die in the attempt? Perfect. But he hadn't expected this: Below the city walls, thirty thousand defenders shouted, eyes red: “My lord is loyal and righteous! We’ll stand with you and defend the city to the death!” On the walls, the Empress secretly slipped him a note: “Just do your best. You don’t have to defend it to the death.” Chen He: ??? I just want to die, go home, and collect my five billion. Could you all stop doing this? Even more unexpectedly: The harder he tried to die, the less he could. The more he courted death, the greater his fame became. The less he wanted to live, the more the officials and common people treated him like a loyal subject. Chen He broke down: Can someone help me die? I’m waiting online, and it’s urgent. Later, the history books of Chu recorded: “Chen He, whose loyalty eclipsed the sun and moon, Chu’s greatest loyal subject.” Chen He: I swear, I’m not. I just want to go home.
