On New Year's Eve in 1975, a blizzard sealed off the mountain village. Su Mianmian was sold by her bloodsucking stepmother to Lei Lie, the "Living Yama" who had just been released from prison and lived at the end of the village. Her dowry was ten jin of pork. There was no sewing machine included, just Lei Lie's two "useless" younger brothers: one blind, the other mute.
The whole village hauled out stools and waited to watch this delicate city-educated youth get tormented to death by the three hungry wolves of the Lei family. Who knew Su Mianmian had an "infinite Walmart space"? White Rabbit candy in one hand, braised pork in the other!
Even stranger, the moment she entered the house, the story took a sharp turn. The notorious Lei boss, said to have killed countless people, knelt by the kang to warm her feet. "Mianmian, is it too hot?"
Not bad, very exciting
