Reborn in 1975: The Island Granny Goes on a Rampage

[Reborn + period drama + island life + family affairs + feel-good]

Lin Cuilan has been reborn.

She returns to 1975, still a sixty-year-old military wife living on an island. In her previous life, her eldest daughter-in-law died in childbirth, her second daughter-in-law starved to death, her eldest son drowned at sea, and her old man passed away after finishing his cigarette. She lived alone for seventeen years, dying in an empty house and not being found until the stench gave her away.

This time, she has a cheat.

With memories from both lives, she has the body of a sixty-year-old but the energy of a thirty-year-old. She knows who will be born when, who will die when, and who will go hungry. She knows which reefs are deadly and which crock should be used to pickle vegetables.

She doesn't argue, make a scene, or fight over things. She just keeps watch over that crock of pickles. She lays in brown sugar three months early, boils mugwort on the right day, and slips her son a map of the hidden reefs.

Everyone in the island compound says, "Granny Lin has it all under control."

Only her old man rubs her knees at night and asks, "Cuilan, how do you know everything?"

She smiles with her eyes closed. "There's plenty more I know. I know you'll live to ninety, I know our grandson will get into college, and I know..."

This time, not a single one of them will be lost.
