Lin Wan, a graduate student in folklore, unexpectedly inherits the family heirloom Yin-Yang Ledger, which lets her see and record the eerie rules that govern the world. When she discovers a hidden “ghost gate” in the city leading to the underworld, she decisively turns it over to the government. Using it as their foundation, the government establishes the Bureau of Paranormal Investigation. As its chief consultant, Lin Wan leads her team in deciphering one terrifying Chinese-style supernatural rule after another, protecting peace in the human world.
