“No one wins this game...”
In the year 2545, red mist blankets Xing'an Province. The moon's countdown stands at 81 days.
Eighty-one invaders from an alien civilization, calling themselves the “Vanguard,” descend from the sky. They breathe fire, control wind, wield lightning, and delight in slaughter.
The rules are simple: if humanity kills all the invaders within 81 days, it survives. If not, everyone dies.
Lin Jianxia is an ER doctor at a third-rate hospital. His ex-girlfriend just ran off with a rich, handsome colleague.
When the red mist descends, he's holding a scalpel and facing an invader who has kicked open the operating room door.
“Mortal.” The invader snaps his fingers, and a spark melts through a metal tray. “Next, I'm going to kill everyone in this building.”
Then Lin Jianxia realizes his eyes have changed. He can see the energy circuits inside his enemies, the paths of psychic energy, and the “threads” connecting life and death.
One cut, and he scores his first kill.
A System alert appears: [You have been marked. Your coordinates are visible to all invaders for 24 hours.]
Overnight, he goes from being a broke doctor everyone looks down on to the most dangerous prey in the city.
But the words Yan Shiyi leaves behind as he dies send a chill down Lin Jianxia's spine:
“We were human once, too.”
As the line between hunter and prey begins to blur and the truth behind the myths slowly comes to light, Lin Jianxia grips his scalpel and ventures into the red mist.
All he wants is to survive and find his missing younger sister.
And maybe kill a few gods along the way.
