I Exposed the Teachers' Dark Web

My husband fell from a bridge and died. The police ruled it an accident.

While sorting through his belongings, I found a piece of red chalk. He never took chalk to drinking parties.

Vice Principal Zhang patted my shoulder. “I’m sorry for your loss. Don’t make a scene and damage the school’s reputation.”

But he didn’t know what I’d seen:

• Twelve minutes of calls remotely deleted from my husband’s phone

• The evasive look in the eyes of Xiaoyu, an eighth-grade girl, and her torn uniform

• Room numbers at a hotel listed in the account books as the destination of “student aid funds”

At last, the surveillance footage from beside the bridge was restored: two people had forced him to the railing.

The one who pushed him was the vice principal, the man who gave speeches at the flag-raising ceremony every day.

I planted a listening device and went undercover in their “Teachers’ Home.”

On the recording, they laughed as they assigned “the next spot.”

The list was crawling with the names of underage girls.

“What trouble can a music teacher possibly cause?”

I confronted them on a livestream. They threw acid at me.

I made the evidence public. They tried to have me committed as “insane.”

Reporter Xu Lang held me down as blood ran from my back. “Let it go.”

I looked at my husband’s portrait. “The bridge was eighteen meters high. Did he get to let it go when he fell?”

From a stub of chalk to thirty-seven letters of accusation.

From the death of one teacher to the collapse of an entire county’s education system.

When the court delivered its verdict, Zhang Jianguo roared, “You’ve destroyed everything!”

I raised my husband’s lesson plan.

“I only turned the pages, one by one, on the crimes you tried to hide.”
