After Our Whirlwind Marriage, the Abstinent Educated Youth Secretly Washes the Sheets Every Night

Shen Lichu and Zhong Haochen were betrothed as children. He promised to care for her for the rest of her life and make sure she wanted for nothing, and she believed him. But as their wedding day drew near, all she got was repeated hurt from him, all because of his comrade’s younger sister. He berated and beat her without hearing her side, then accused her of pushing the other woman into the river. He only had her pulled out when she was on the verge of drowning. Zhong Haochen looked at her coldly. “You must think you can be this vicious because I’ve spoiled you too much. Give your job to Nan Xi. I’ve already signed you up to go work in the countryside. Think about what you did. I’ll bring you back when you admit you were wrong.” After Shen Lichu left, Zhong Haochen finally thought to go looking for her, but he could never bring her back. When they met again, she had married a young intellectual sent down to the countryside. She no longer needed him and treated him like a stranger. Zhong Haochen’s eyes turned bloodshot. “Shen Lichu, I’m your fiance. How dare you marry someone else without my permission?” Before the once-gentle young woman could answer, Lu Jinnan, who was holding her hand, gave a scornful laugh. “He’s only your fiance, not your husband. And even if he were your husband, she could still divorce him and marry someone else after being hurt.” Lu Jinnan pulled her into his arms, a smile curving his lips. “Actually, I should thank you. You brought her back to me, giving me the chance to marry her.” Shen Lichu looked at Lu Jinnan with gratitude in her eyes. Perhaps the hurt she had endured was what led her to meet him. Though stingy, he bought her anything she liked. Though aloof to the rest of the world, he showed her his gentlest side. Everything he did told her that she was the one he cherished most. Lu Jinnan looked at her and smiled without a word. She would never know that he had planned their marriage long ago, or that he had held her in his heart from the very beginning.
