The Ex-Wife with Hair on Both Sides

Five years after their divorce, Wei Qian runs into her ex-husband, Zhou Qiming, on a street corner. He has fallen so low that he’s scavenging for scraps, his hair gone gray and his hands cracked. Unable to bear seeing him like that, Wei Qian gives him some money to help. Three days later, a basket of fresh vegetables and a note appear at her door: He used the money to buy rice and flour for elderly people living alone, and he grew the vegetables himself in a garden on the outskirts of town. Surprised and touched, Wei Qian starts looking into his situation and learns that he went into debt after a failed investment and guaranteeing someone else’s loan. He is being hounded by Huang Shulang, a debt-collection ringleader. Zhou Qiming had even used emotional abuse to drive her away so she wouldn’t get caught up in his troubles. Wei Qian sets clear boundaries: she won’t lend him money or get back together with him, but she will help him find a job and pursue legal remedies. Huang Shulang continues to harass them and spread rumors to drive a wedge between them, trying to ruin Wei Qian’s life and reputation. With support from her close friend Tang Ying, Wei Qian joins forces with Zhou Qiming to gather evidence, report the crimes to the police, and restructure the debt, gradually forcing the criminals to back off. As they help each other while keeping their feelings in check, they rebuild their trust and confront the pain and fear of the past. In the end, the debt is paid off, and Zhou Qiming finds redemption by helping seniors in the community. He humbly asks Wei Qian to take him back. Wei Qian gives him a year to prove himself and chooses to start over with him in a more mature way.
