Case Files in Cryptic Speech: Nine Predictions

In 2200, Earth's resources are depleted and civilization has regressed. Rule-based horror scenarios appear at random, turning into deadly games in which nations fight for their fortunes. Pei Jiucai, a former criminal investigation consultant, is chosen as a selected player because of an unsolved case. Calm and meticulous, he excels at finding a way to survive by exploiting loopholes. Every time he enters a game, he might trigger his "jinx": anything he says offhand becomes reality. Nine predictions, and the rules are rewritten. But he discovers that behind every horror scenario, a higher-dimensional eye is watching. Win, and the nation's fortunes rise; lose, and cities are annihilated. He keeps quiet, because speaking of it makes it stop working. Pessimistic remarks are his weapon; the truth is forbidden knowledge. After nine rounds, the rules strike back. Before the world swallows him, he must find the source of that eye.
