Janus's Moss

A short practice story, still focused on romance, with a six-year age gap and pregnancy and childbirth as themes. Overall, it's a slow-burn, sweet everyday romance between a bubbly young woman and a reserved older man. Updates whenever inspiration strikes. The law university cafeteria had a place that served inauthentic, decidedly untraditional braised chicken rice. Its lack of authenticity made it unpopular with some, while its unconventional take earned it unexpected fans. The reviews were sharply divided. Danting was firmly in the pro-braised-chicken-rice camp. Sitting on the back row of steps at Bai Ailin's open lecture, she quietly argued with a nearby freshman. Unfortunately, the other student was a true disciple of the prestigious law school, and a sharp tongue came with the territory. Danting lost the argument over how braised chicken rice could possibly be made without chicken. She glanced up. The senior on the stage, who held the room in the palm of his hand, was debating three younger students at once. He hadn't even looked over at her. Danting wondered: If I married him, what would I do if I couldn't win an argument with him? Someone nearby heard her muttering and scoffed, telling her to stop dreaming. Years later. She stepped out of the house, gently closing the door behind her and stomping her foot hard. She messaged Bai Ailin: What should I do when I argue with my husband and he won't say a word?
