Family, Spring, Autumn: Big Brother Gao Juexin Rises

Just before Gao Juexin closed his eyes, he seemed to see his wife Ruijue and his sons Haier and Yun’er beckoning to him. Suddenly, his body sank, and he heard a thud beside him. He jerked his eyes open and found himself in his grandfather Gao Laotaiye’s funeral hall. Concubine Chen, Fourth Aunt, and Fifth Aunt were talking about some “disaster of bloodshed” and demanding that Ruijue leave the city to give birth. Juexin remembered how, back then, his cowardice had led him to give in again and again from that moment on, until Ruijue died in difficult labor outside the city because medical care was so inadequate. Then Yun’er and Haier were taken from him too. Given the chance to live his life over, he decided to learn from his second and third brothers. He would no longer be a coward, and he would no longer give in.
