Su Xiaonuan: From Village Girl to Leader in Prosperity

“A young woman like you, showing your face in public all day. Aren’t you ashamed?”

“Not at all. I earned more this month than you make in a whole year of work points.”

“A woman’s place is to marry a man and let him provide for her!”

“I can earn my own money and buy my own food and clothes. Why bring someone into my life just to make it miserable?”

“You dared to report the village bully. Aren’t you afraid he’ll retaliate?”

“I am, which is why I also reported the connections backing him.”

In rural Northeast China in 1990, Su Xiaonuan, the youngest daughter of the Su family, challenges prejudice through her actions:

Getting rich doesn’t depend on marrying well, but on having a sharp eye;

Defending your rights doesn’t take brute force, but wisdom;

Making a fortune isn’t about going it alone, but working together!

From having nothing but four bare walls to becoming the richest family in the village,

from facing doubt at every turn to becoming a model for the whole county,

Su Xiaonuan’s secrets to success are simple:

Run a lawful business and stand tall;

Prosper together, openly and honorably!
