Star Garden: The Source of Life

With terminally ill Wang Ya on the brink of death, her adoptive parents, Yan Junyi and Yin Su, bring her into a secret research project called “Chrysalis Migration.” Led by a team of top scientists, the technology aims to separate a person’s consciousness from their body, convert it into data, and store it in a device called a “Monolith,” where it can wait until a healthy body is cloned and the consciousness implanted anew. It seems humanity has finally found a way to defy death.

However, once Wang Ya’s consciousness becomes the first to enter the virtual world known as the “Gray Plaza,” the technology’s fatal flaw gradually comes to light: consciousness can be randomly lost during the transfer. And what Wang Ya loses is every memory of the time she spent with her adoptive parents. Meanwhile, two powerful interest groups, Tuojing United and the Composite, wage an intense struggle to claim the technology. The scientists’ conscience and ambition, the greed and schemes of business, and the light and darkness of human nature collide fiercely.

But the conflict goes far beyond that.

This is a story that questions the boundaries of life and the nature of memory and identity. More than that, in an age of runaway technological progress, it asks how we define being “alive” in the first place.
