A Wild Official in the Wanli Era

Shen Weijing was a scholar from a humble family, poor but gifted with the talent to govern the world. He abandoned his studies to enlist and head to Liaodong, drove back the Japanese pirates with a fire attack, and made his way into General Li Rusong’s residence. With a single remark, he exposed Nurhaci’s ambition to expand!

Called to resist the Japanese, he proposed a surprise attack that broke Pyongyang, killed the Japanese commander, and burned the grain stores. He tore apart the sham peace negotiations and impeached the incompetent commander Yang Hao, who was executed on the spot!

Returning to the capital, he stood up to the eunuch faction, purged corruption, introduced new policies, reclaimed borderlands, and fortified the frontier. He prevented the disastrous Battle of Sarhu ten years ahead of schedule!

From military adviser to Grand Secretary, from penniless commoner to pillar of the Ming dynasty, he denounced treacherous officials, quelled internal unrest, repelled the Jurchen, and drove back the Japanese pirates. Serving two emperors, he single-handedly rewrote the fate of a doomed Ming dynasty, becoming the foremost figure of the Wanli era to “restore the Ming”!

“The realm is in turmoil. I’ll bear its burden alone!”
