After One Wrong-Night Stand, the Capital’s Tycoon Fell Hard Overnight

[Overbearing possessiveness + sweet romance + heartbreak + regretful pursuit]

“Fu Jingchen,” she said softly, so softly he could barely hear her. “Could you… not go?”

Fu Jingchen paused, then turned to look at her. “She isn’t safe right now. I need to check on her.”

“You can send someone else,” Xia Yichu said, biting her lip. “The police, security, anyone. It doesn’t have to be you.”

Her words were direct and unmistakable.

Fu Jingchen froze.

He looked at Xia Yichu. She stood in the doorway in nothing but her pajamas, barefoot, her face as pale as paper and her eyes red, as if she might burst into tears at any moment.

“I’ll go check on her,” he said more gently. “I’ll be back soon.”

“I don’t want you to go.” Xia Yichu’s tears finally fell. “I don’t want you to go… Fu Jingchen, please don’t go…”

She walked over and grabbed his sleeve, clutching it so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

Seeing her tear-streaked face, Fu Jingchen felt something tighten in his chest.

He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her forehead. “Be good. I’ll be back soon. Go back to sleep. You don’t have to wait up for me.”

Then he let her go, quickly put on his coat, picked up his car keys, and left without looking back.

The door closed with a soft click.

Xia Yichu stood where she was, listening to his footsteps fade outside, then to the car starting and driving away.

Then she slowly sank to the floor.

Tears poured out like a breached dam. She hugged her knees, buried her head in them, and sobbed until her whole body shook.
