Early Summer, Clear Skies: Born to Follow the Light

The early-summer sunshine spills into the “Sunshine Fragrance” shop as Lin Chuxia puts the finishing touches on her latest perfume. She has no idea that three minutes later, Shen Qinghe will walk through the door and disrupt her peaceful world with precise botanical data. This PhD, who can use a chromatograph to analyze every scent in the world, encounters “data failure” for the very first time the moment he steps into her shop.

“I need the scent of a special plant.”

“What a coincidence. I’m best at creating miracles.”

And so, an experiment in falling in love quietly begins:

He records: [When exposed to variable L, dopamine levels rise by 37%. Cause unknown.]

She discovers: [When this PhD gets shy, the tips of his ears turn red, like the tender new leaves of some adorable plant.]

From “a social distance of 1.2 meters” to “sharing an umbrella in the snow,” from “a laboratory fragrance consultant contract” to “a community healing garden design,” reason and emotion collide in gentle sparks each time their eyes meet.

Until one day, he hands her a plant atlas he made himself. On the last page, he writes: “Still growing: my feelings for you.”

“So, Dr. Shen, what’s your conclusion?”

He pushes up his glasses. “The data shows that you’re the only variable that makes every equation fail. And I choose to spend the rest of my life studying this beautiful anomaly.”

This is a story about writing love letters with data and healing hearts with fragrance. When a meticulous scientist meets a warm-hearted perfumer, even the most precise instruments can’t measure the rhythm of a heartbeat, and even the most complicated formula can’t solve the mystery of love.

Because some encounters are as instinctive as plants growing toward the light, written into our genes.
