Synopsis

The rain came down as if the sky had sprung a leak. When Zhang Baowei made his fifth round to the back entrance, he finally spotted the shadow. At first he thought it was a trash bag, but what trash bag wears a suit? Even after twenty years working at a psychiatric hospital, the sight left him frozen for five seconds. “Hey! Who’s there?” The shadow didn’t move. Zhang Baowei tightened his grip on his flashlight and reached for his walkie-talkie with his other hand. Eight hundred possibilities flashed through his mind: an escaped patient (but in a suit?), a reporter (in this weather?), a salesperson (talk about dedication), or worst of all, an undercover inspection team from management. He’d just had his bonus docked last week because the director said the security department was “as alert as a cat on its day off.” “Say something, or I’m calling the police!” Zhang Baowei took two steps closer and shone his flashlight on the shadow’s face. It was a man, about thirty, with a face as pale as a hospital ward wall. His cheap gray suit was soaked through and clung to him like a second skin. His eyes were closed, but his chest was rising and falling. He was alive. Zhang Baowei breathed a sigh of relief, then immediately tensed up again: the living were more trouble than the dead.

Looking for a Kindhearted Protagonist Who Helps the Suffering

I want something with a strong sense of purpose, preferably with no romance. The characters should be kind, thoughtful, and driven by a desire for revenge. They should dare to speak, act, and dream, and not waste time on empty gestures. Any gender is fine. It could be about love of country, another nation, the world, or liberation. Give me something good.
