Basketball Apocalypse: Starting with Shohoku

When basketball evolves into a battlefield for the gifted, do they see glory or a curse?

On the afternoon Sakuragi Hanamichi failed at his fiftieth confession, a crack split open the world before his eyes.

He saw three afterimages trailing Rukawa Kaede as he leaped, a basketball tracing a path through the air that defied the laws of physics, and a golden glow awakening deep in his own pupils. It was a latent ability known as “the Zone,” a secret buried in his genes, and the beginning of a conspiracy that had lasted twenty years.

On his first day joining the Shohoku basketball team, Sakuragi had no idea:

· The label “Subject 47” in Coach Anzai Mitsuyoshi’s notebook pointed straight at him.

· His rival Rukawa Kaede’s data system recorded every one of his inhuman growth spurts.

· Mitsui Hisashi’s knee injury and Miyagi Ryota’s obsession with revenge were both connected to the same shadowy organization.

· And the ability to see “the next move” had once reduced a laboratory to ashes.

This is no ordinary school basketball story.

It is a clash of flesh and blood between those whose talents have awakened and training driven by systems.

It is a monster bearing an experimental subject number rising in rebellion against its creator.

It is an evolutionary journey from the prefectural tournament to the national stage, then on to the NBA and the pinnacle of the world.

The fire of youth still burns, but dark currents are already gathering.

As Shohoku’s red flag rises, the vow to “conquer the nation” hides an even more fervent declaration:

“We will use basketball to prove, ”

“Human beings are not weapons that can be designed.”
