Six months after the Buddha-made demons case at Puji Temple was resolved, demonic spirits across the country run amok and attack people, and turmoil in Buddhist circles resurfaces. Zhang Xiaoshuai, a former restorer of ancient books, joins forces with investigative reporter Chen Mo, antique book collector Old Zhou, and Zhao Yue, an official specialist capable of detecting demonic energy, to investigate the truth behind it all.
They discover that a secret nationwide organization called the “Buddha Protection League” is to blame. Its members are senior monks from major ancient temples. They claim to uphold orthodox Buddhism, but in reality, they control the Buddha-made demon system and exploit public fear of demonic spirits to rake in money through “donations to suppress demons,” online prayers, and other schemes. The only way to end it all is to find the ancient treasure left behind by the Buddha, the “Demon-Suppressing Seal,” whose location can be revealed only by gathering three ancient secret scriptures.
The team embarks on a journey across the country, crossing dangerous places such as snowy mountains, the ocean depths, and deserts. They evade the Buddha Protection League’s pursuit and traps, gradually gathering all three scriptures and pinpointing the Demon-Suppressing Seal’s location at the Demon-Suppressing Temple in the southwest. After sneaking into the temple, they battle the League’s core members. Drawing on her family’s legacy of pure, potent yang energy, Zhao Yue successfully controls the seal.
In the end, the out-of-control demonic spirits are purified, the Buddha-made demon system collapses, and the League’s core members are arrested. A nationwide campaign is launched to address religious abuses. Yet the mysterious light flashing from the Demon-Suppressing Seal, along with ancient texts describing “Buddha and demon coexisting,” suggests that a new crisis is still lurking.
