The Charges: In the Name of Love

The inspiration for Guilty as Charged: In the Name of Love came from a news report in 2015 that kept me awake all night. At the time, I intended to use it as the basis for a film script about educating young people. What sparked the idea was a report from a video news channel exposing the state of juvenile crime: in recent years, juvenile crime has continued to rise, with a clear trend toward younger offenders, group crimes, and increasingly serious offenses.

A set of figures released by the Ministry of Public Security unsettled me even more: among juvenile offenders aged 16 to 17, 85.1% were suspected of theft, robbery, snatching, or assault; among those aged 14 to 15, the figure was as high as 92%. As a father, those numbers struck me like a hammer, leaving me tossing and turning and deep in thought: do these young people truly not understand the law, or do they simply not know what constitutes a crime? In today's rapidly developing information age, how can we guide children properly so they can grow up healthy?

I know that youthful ignorance and curiosity, combined with a lack of positive guidance and understanding, can easily lead them onto a path of breaking the law, causing the course of their lives to veer completely off track. So creating a work that combined cautionary real-life cases with an engaging plot became an obsession of mine. I hope this story will sound an alarm for young people and guide them away from the wrong path. More than that, I hope to call on all sectors of society to face this issue instead of waiting until tragedy strikes to regret it.
