During the Wanli era, the Ming dynasty fights Japanese pirates. This is a story set during the Wanli era of the Ming dynasty, when Ming forces aid Joseon in resisting a Japanese invasion. The protagonists are Shen Lian, an expert in the Ming dynasty's Embroidered Uniform Guard, and Lee Jeonghui, a heroine from the Joseon civilian organization known as the White Plume Society. From mutual distrust to fighting side by side, they must face brutal sieges and street battles, root out a traitor hidden among their own ranks, and prevent a third party, the Jurchens, from profiting from the conflict. Focusing on espionage and conspiracy behind the battlefield, the story portrays the choices, loyalty, and sacrifices of ordinary people in a time of chaos.
