The Day I Cracked Someone's Skull with a Bottle in Cambodia

The week of my eighteenth birthday, I lost everything on the streets of Bangkok.

Broke and penniless, I was handed a job listing: a salary of fifteen thousand a month, with room and board, in Cambodia.

I thought I’d found a lifeline. It was just an ordinary security job.

Until the third day.

In the alley behind the casino, I was backed into a corner. The words struck my ears like a knife:

“Here, dignity has to be redefined.”

In that moment, I made a decision that would change my life.

That decision put me in the hospital for two weeks, with blood staining the white sheets.

It also brought me face-to-face with a man named A Hu.
