Snow Falls on the Silent Sea

This is a story about being reborn after dignity has crumbled, and about love turning into sacrifice in the face of utter despair.

On the day he went bankrupt, Wang Jinbei shut the doors of his company for the last time, standing in the rain. The world had already filed him away as a failure, until he met Su Xiaowen, a massage therapist who was nearly blind. Though she could only distinguish faint glimmers of light, she could precisely "see" the pain in others.

This is a story about how broken people learn to "see" one another. When social status falls away, health slips out of reach, and memory betrays them, the dignity, responsibility, and sacrifice that endure deep in human nature become the faint light illuminating a long, dark night.

At the bottom of the abyss, they "saw" each other, using flesh and bone to build one another a shore to return to.

I crossed the rain of bankruptcy, the darkness of restored sight, the thorn of a debt of gratitude, and the bones on the snowy mountain, and at last I understood:

At its deepest, love means living as your light, your shore, and another life of yours that never ceases to grow.
