Purple Bamboo Falls to the Mortal World: Atonement Across Three Lives

People curse me as Shen Yan, the demon of Purple Bamboo, a lecher and murderer, steeped in evil and hunted by every immortal, rejected by Heaven. But no one knows that I was once a pure and aloof lord of the bamboo, untouched by worldly affairs, until a curse sent me into the mortal world. A thousand years of madness, a sea of lookalikes, and a lifetime of bloodshed, all to mourn the beloved who had died long ago by the banks of the Qiantang River. A mistaken thought became a calamity, and karmic burdens entangled me. I abandoned greed and delusion, gave up my cultivation, quelled the flood, guided the dead, and traversed the four seas to atone. My remnant soul was imprisoned in the roots of the purple bamboo, keeping vigil in solitude for five hundred years: a lifetime repaying a debt of gratitude, a lifetime lost to the mortal world, a lifetime of redemption. All three lifetimes and reincarnations were for her. I wronged all living beings beneath Heaven, yet I never betrayed the love that endured across the ages.
