The Ninth Princess, Xi He, was the daughter of a favored consort deep in the palace. All she ever wanted was to live in peace with her mother.
But her imperial father and brothers forced her hand. Her mother died, and Xi He was sent away in a political marriage.
To save herself, she set out for the frontier as an army inspector, where she witnessed the suffering of the people and wondered what wrong the common folk had done.
Along the way, she encountered soldiers who had been framed, bodyguards forced into retreat, and strategists who had lost all hope.
From a princess raised deep in the palace to an iron-blooded empress,
Xi He endured desperate battles on the frontier and assassination attempts by her brothers. With no other choice, she raised the banner of purging traitors from the court and embarked on the road to seize the throne.
This sweeping epic tells a stirring story of revenge, political intrigue, growth, and change.
On this thorn-strewn path to the throne, watch Xi He break through crises with decisive force and secure the realm with her wisdom and courage, until she becomes a legend for the ages.
