The story follows Xia Dongchun, who, after dying, is favored by the Way of Heaven and gets a second chance at life. With a golden finger that lets her communicate with plants, and guided by the principle that striving is the best way not to strive, she overcomes obstacles posed by the Empress, Noble Consort Nian, Consort Duan, and Zhen Huan. She sets out to put her own child on the throne and change the tragic course of the Qing dynasty.
This story does not recreate the plot of Empresses in the Palace exactly as it unfolds in the original. Instead, it uses famous scenes from the series to depict palace intrigue and the brutal reality of imperial power.
