Beneath the spotlight, Shen Mengyao shines as a dazzling star on the SNH48 stage. Wrapped in her fans’ cheers and the glory of the stage, she also carries pressures and old wounds no one knows about.
The fire that destroyed the little house three years ago not only took away the days she and Su Wan spent relying on each other, but also left a lingering doubt in her heart about being “used.” Was Su Wan, who always protected her from the shadows before mysteriously disappearing after the fire, her salvation, or the embodiment of a conspiracy?
In her previous life, Su Wan was a top assassin who walked the knife’s edge, codenamed “Night Owl.” Coldness and calculation were second nature to her, yet she had let her guard down only around Shen Mengyao.
Three years ago, to protect Shen Mengyao from the organization’s pursuit, she faked her death and went into hiding. Now she has returned, still carrying unhealed wounds and feelings she dares not speak aloud. She can fight, knows medicine, and excels at disguise, but she has no idea how to dispel the suspicion in Shen Mengyao’s eyes.
Their reunion is an unexpected collision. Su Wan uses her flippant, obnoxious manner as a shield, repeatedly clearing obstacles for Shen Mengyao from the shadows: keeping paparazzi at bay, foiling schemes, and protecting her from harm. Shen Mengyao struggles between wariness and wavering feelings, caught between the warmth of the past and the distance of the present. The truth about the fire hangs between them like a veil of mist.
As the shadows of the past loom once more, the assassin organization’s pursuit and the entertainment industry’s open and covert attacks arrive one after another. Su Wan has no choice but to reveal her true capabilities, and Shen Mengyao finally catches a glimpse of the wounds beneath her cold mask. Their misunderstandings fade as they fight side by side, and their love grows fiercely on the edge of life and death.
It turns out the brilliance of a star needs the protection of shadows, and the shadows’ true home is the star
