The story revolves around Xiao Wendong’s ability to perceive yin and yang, linking together the strange events in Long Town. An old object at Zhang Xiaohui’s congee shop leads him to his mother’s final wish; then come the yin fetus incident and the haunting by Liu Cheng’s vengeful spirit. Xiao Wendong always manages to resolve each crisis with his wits. He deals with supernatural events involving a water spirit in an old well and a red opera costume on a stage, discovering that most are caused by unresolved attachments. As Xiao Wendong and Zhang Xiaohui weather one ordeal after another together, they grow closer. Though they face setbacks, including retaliation from a yin-yang master, Xiao Wendong ultimately settles matters for everyone with understanding, and their feelings deepen amid the intertwining mysteries of yin and yang.
