Eye of the Gray Wolf

In 1975, as the power broker Kang Sheng lay dying, he swore a vicious oath: Better to be condemned for all eternity than to be forgotten by history. When he opened his eyes again, he had become the 22-year-old Temujin, the future gray wolf who would trample half the world beneath his feet.

Two souls battle inside the body of a Mongolian youth: one, a ruthless mind versed in eight centuries of political struggle; the other, a primal instinct coursing with the fierce blood of the steppes. When Kang Sheng uses the tactics of the Cultural Revolution to crush tribal rivals with an overwhelming advantage, history bares its savage fangs. Merkit cavalry strike ahead of schedule, a shaman foretells that "the man with two souls will stain the steppe with blood," and the eyes of his wife, Borte, are steadily revealing the deepest fissures in his heart.

This is a struggle of souls between conqueror and schemer, and history's bloody backlash against one who transmigrates. When the gray wolf opens his third eye, what will he see: the borders of an empire, or his own reflection in an endless abyss?
