Lin Xiaoman, an unlucky intern who works from eight in the morning until nine at night, knocks over a mysterious stranger and faints in a hardware store. When she opens her eyes, she has been reborn in the fictional Great Jing dynasty as a destitute young woman with nothing but bare walls to her name and a gambling debt of two taels of silver. She carries half a copy of the Encyclopedia of Hardware, stained with blood, and a Myriad Heavens Hero-Hunting Token that can identify “ancient prodigies.” Armed with her modern-day work ethic and a few hardware tricks, she sets up stalls to make money in the ancient world and hilariously cons one prodigy after another.
