Suicide and Homicide

An elderly man with an amputated left leg is found hanged in his apartment a day after his death. His body is about 80 centimeters above the floor. There is nothing on the ground he could have stood on, and with only one leg, he could not have jumped up and put the rope around his neck.

Two months before his death, the old man had taken out a life insurance policy with a large payout. The apartment door was locked from the inside, making it look like a sealed room. The insurance company suspected the deceased had staged a murder to commit insurance fraud, so they called the police.

The police arrived at the scene. Beneath the body, they found an empty cardboard box. Suddenly, inspiration struck, and the police quickly reached their conclusion: the old man had staged his suicide to look like a murder.
