In 1998, the Jiangcheng Zoo on the city’s western outskirts was on the verge of closing.

Jiang Ye, a former ace animal trainer, was crippled and down on his luck. He was buried in debt and forced to sell a tiger to pay it off.

Just as he was losing hope, his five-year-old daughter, Jiang Tuantuan, who had grown up in the mountains, came down with her little backpack.

The wolves guarded the entrance, the black bears carried her formula, and the golden snub-nosed monkeys collected the admission fees.

And that wasn’t all. She even turned her washed-up, alcoholic dad into the richest man in the country!

Jiang Ye: “Don’t ask me how I did it. I’m just the guy who cooks for my daughter and the tiger…”
