Niu San's Treasure Hunt

"Niu San Treasure Hunt" allows readers to touch the struggle and awakening of human nature in a heart-wrenching and cold atmosphere. The profoundness of this novel is not that it completes a treasure hunt, but that it uses the illusion of treasure hunting to complete the reflection and questioning of human nature, family affection and sin. Niu San's treasure hunt has been shadowed by hunger and hardship from beginning to end. The "treasure" he pursues has never had a clear outline, but is more like an illusion to support himself in a desperate situation. Treasures are nothing but self-deceiving intuitions. Niu San failed to find material wealth in the end, but he achieved spiritual awakening through repeated encounters, struggles and reflections. The novel uses the illusion of treasure hunting to awaken the reality, allowing readers to understand that the real salvation is never to seek outside, but to look inward. The author's description of desolate scenes has become a core element in promoting the plot and shaping the characters. In the story, hunger is concrete, and hardship and desolation are the spiritual background. The desolate wasteland, the bleak broken house, and the bleak cold wind not only outline the harsh living environment of Niu San, but also serve as a metaphor for his inner desolation and confusion. Under the double threat of hunger and coldness, the weakness and brilliance of human nature are infinitely magnified: Niu San once hurt his relatives because of selfishness, and once avoided crime because of cowardice. These dark sides were fully exposed in the cold atmosphere; and his final repentance and kindness are also the hope that grows tenaciously in this bleak soil. This writing method that deeply integrates atmosphere and theme makes readers feel the biting cold in their senses and the heart-wrenching pain in their emotions. Niu San's "crime" was not a heinous crime. The author does not portray Niu San as a stereotyped "bad guy", but delicately describes his reflection on family ties and his growing regret for his past actions in the midst of hunger and hardship. Niu San's final confession of family affection not only completed the emotional compensation for his relatives, but also achieved a new understanding of "goodness": "goodness" is not an innate quality, but the courage to choose to make amends and redemption after recognizing one's own "evil". Hunger is a central image throughout the novel. The author describes Niu San's struggle in hunger with extremely delicate writing: the burning sensation in his stomach, the hallucinations before his eyes, and his extreme desire for food. These descriptions make readers feel the cruelty of survival as if they were on the scene. Under the oppression of hunger, the good and evil of human nature are pushed to the extreme: some people do whatever it takes to survive, exposing selfishness and cruelty; but Niu San, after experiencing countless struggles, chose to stick to the bottom line of human nature. When one is unable to protect oneself, still choosing to repent and make amends is the true glory of human nature. Through the narrative of hunger, the novel closely combines the dilemma of survival with the choices of human nature, allowing readers to understand that the so-called "good" and "evil" are not absolute binary oppositions, but the result of constant swings and choices in extreme environments, and this process of selection is the entire meaning of human nature.

Niu San is an ordinary person trapped in obsession, and all his anger has its origin. I hate the hardships of life, I hate the difficulties of fate, and most profoundly, I hate my father's background, and even more, I hate myself for being trapped in the quagmire and feeling helpless. The eager pursuit of wealth is greed, and it is also a desire to grasp a straw to get out of a desperate situation, to get rid of the difficulties that have no end in sight. The days of rescuing the mountains and hills were an opportunity for redemption quietly delivered by fate. The little warmth between them opened his closed heart, allowing him to slowly see his heart through his efforts, and gradually understand his father's forbearance and helplessness hidden in silence. Until the moment the truth is revealed, all the hatred and resentment suddenly disappear, the past obsessions are finally released, and the half-life struggle is reconciled. When he turned around and left, there was no ecstasy or sadness, only lightness and tranquility in his body, and he finally completed the ultimate redemption with himself and the past.

The core of this story is never how much wealth is found, but the self-awareness Niu San completes during this journey. In the end, he may not have found material treasures, but he has found something more precious: facing up to sin, repenting of family affection, and re-understanding "goodness".
