Lin Xiaoman is an ordinary college student, but her innate Yin-Yang Eyes let her see spirits invisible to ordinary people, leaving her isolated on campus. During an impromptu dorm-room game of spirit writing, she accidentally summons Mo Chen, an heir to the sealed Miao art of gu. A campus celebrity who appears to be student council president, Mo Chen actually bears the ancient art of gu and is charged with maintaining the balance between the worlds of yin and yang. A supernatural incident forces the two into a pact: Lin Xiaoman must learn to control her Yin-Yang Eyes with Mo Chen’s help, while Mo Chen needs her abilities to find supernatural objects scattered around campus, including an RP lantern and the A’jie Drum. As they spend more time together, they go from using each other to falling in love. But their relationship faces threats from three directions: Su Ya, the campus belle, who is jealous of Lin Xiaoman’s closeness to Mo Chen; a mysterious professor secretly coveting the power of the supernatural objects; and elders in Mo Chen’s family who oppose his union with an ordinary person. As supernatural incidents on campus grow more frequent, Lin Xiaoman discovers that her bond with Mo Chen was fated more than a century ago. Together, they must confront the ultimate enemy, who wants to use the supernatural objects to open the gate between the worlds of yin and yang: Mo Chen’s master, a master of gu who will stop at nothing to resurrect his beloved.
