The Poor, Handsome Guy She Married Out of Spite Is a Madman

[A spite marriage + tortured romance with a mad husband + an epic spanning three generations of women]

In 1983, Li Xiuyun married Zhou Zhiqiang, the poorest but most handsome young man in the village, out of spite.

She thought she'd won her freedom, never realizing this was the beginning of hell.

Three years into their marriage, her husband was driven mad. He began beating her, flying into rages, and smashing everything in sight.

Everyone urged her to divorce him, but she gritted her teeth and stayed. "If I leave, he'll really go mad."

Their daughter, Xiaohe, grew up under his fists and studied desperately to escape,

but poverty and her mad father held her back. In the end, she wound up tightening screws on an assembly line alongside an illiterate man.

This is the story of a woman who spent her whole life paying for one impulsive decision,

and an epic of three generations of women whose blood and tears nourished resilient flowers amid the ruins.
