Lin Moyu, the youngest Heavenly Master in the history of the Daoist sect, is struck down by the very Thunder of the Purple Heavens he summoned, right in front of a huge crowd at the grand Luotian Ceremony.
When he opens his eyes again, he has become a repeat student in a world of magic. After ten years of grueling study, just as his perfect magic circle shines into the sky, a portal spits him out once again.
This time, he lands right on the Demon King’s throne.
Looking at the countless demons beneath him shouting, “We welcome Your Majesty!”, Lin Moyu finally understands: he is burdened with a cosmic-level curse of “bad luck.” Every time he reaches the peak of his life, some irresistible force strikes him down with perfect precision!
“Fine. I won’t do anything this time. I’ll just lie flat in the Demon King’s castle and see what else fate can do to mess with me!”
He disbands the army, grows vegetables and flowers, and turns the Demon King’s castle into a country retreat. Until one day, a holy hero smashes through the gates and shouts at him with tears in his eyes:
“Demon King! I see it now! The loneliness you hide beneath your carefree façade, the kindness you disguise as tyranny! I’ll put an end to your curse!”
Lin Moyu looks at the demons behind him, who have sworn undying loyalty after being moved by his “tyranny” (peaceful decrees), then at the hero, who has wildly overinterpreted everything. His vision goes black.
“Please, stop trying to save me... I really just want to lie flat!”
This is the (reverse) path to godhood of an unlucky man who, amid one misunderstanding after another, is forced to become a legend and struggles to lie flat while the whole world tries to “help” him.
