The sky was no longer the familiar deep blue. Instead, it was cloaked in an eerie dark red, like congealed blood. A faint smell of rust hung in the air, along with a barely perceptible stench. Thick black smoke billowed from the distant school building. The tops of several high-rises had already collapsed, their steel beams and concrete exposed like the bones of dead giants.
Even more terrifying, things that didn't belong in this world had appeared in the streets.
One was a monster about two meters tall, shaped like a mantis magnified countless times over. Its body was covered in dark purple carapace, and its scythe-like forelimbs gleamed with a metallic chill. It scanned the panicked, fleeing crowd with its compound eyes, then suddenly sprang at them.
“Riiip!”
