My System Keeps Handing Out Perks in Troubled Times

Lu Ming, an overworked office worker, transmigrates to an ancient age of chaos, where human lives are worth less than grass. His parents are both dead, and the only person at his side is his simple-minded younger brother, who eats astonishing amounts and is strong enough to lift a massive cauldron. Bound to an unreliable 【Civilization Rebuilding System】, Lu Ming receives missions that are absurd yet somehow make a little sense: “Take in ten refugees (Reward: potato seeds),” “Build a public toilet (Reward: a simple cement formula)”... To stay alive, Lu Ming has no choice but to take his brother and a group of elderly, weak, and sick people into the mountains. Others build mountain strongholds to rob and plunder, but he builds one to develop infrastructure, clear land, farm, and promote hygiene. Only when the stronghold's granaries are full, its houses are sturdy, and everyone has clothes to wear does Lu Ming realize that he seems to be a rather different sort of “mountain king.” Then the land descends into chaos and warlords rise up. He looks at the starving corpses scattered below the mountain, then at the “stronghold special zone” behind him, where people live and work in peace, and at the new mission flashing in his System: “Final Mission Issued: End the age of chaos and establish a new order. Reward: A ticket home (optional).” Lu Ming falls silent. Should he go home, or build a “home” for this era and everyone who follows him, a home they will never have to leave?
