Stories from Northern Liaoning

In northern Liaobei in the 1980s, as China’s reform and opening-up gathered momentum, people either went into business or left their hometowns for distant places. Jiang Weidong, a graduate of a technical college, refuses to inherit the family business, an auto repair shop, and insists on joining the criminal investigation squad at his uncle’s urging.
