The Day I Retired, I Became a Hit on My Favorite Variety Show

The midday sun beat down mercilessly on the bluestone road. Heat waves warped the air, and cicadas shrieked hysterically in an old pagoda tree. Qin Feng trudged across the scorching pavement, each step heavy. He carried a faded old camouflage pack and wore a pair of badly worn combat boots. With every step, the soles left a clear imprint in the dusty road. This was the only road into Yunshan Village. It was narrow, just wide enough for one car. Five meters ahead, a black Mercedes van was parked across the road, completely blocking the way. The engine was still running, and the air-conditioning unit roared as it blew out hot air. Qin Feng stopped and looked up. The car's glossy black finish seemed completely out of place at the dusty village entrance. Its windows were covered with dark security film, making it impossible to see inside.
