The Fallen General Star: Fate Cannot Be Defied

[Light political intrigue] [One-on-one, both devoted only to each other] [Cool-headed priestess and loyal general] Yun Xi, High Diviner of the Ni Kingdom, is bound by a fate that says she will die at twenty-five. She is the dynasty’s clearest-eyed prophet of tragedy. While divining the nation’s fortunes, she glimpses a blood-red prophecy: “The battle star will fall to darkness, and the dynasty will collapse.” The star points to Xiao Yi, a young general famed for his military achievements. Faced with the emperor’s murderous intent, she stakes her life on a military pledge and becomes Xiao Yi’s “observer,” hoping to change his seemingly inevitable fate at its source. She is the one destined to oversee his execution, and also his only co-conspirator. Xiao Yi, the general known as the “Demon King of the Battlefield,” hides the bloody truth of his mother’s tragic death beneath a facade of loyalty. He approaches Yun Xi both because he is instinctively drawn to her and because he hopes to uncover the truth. He does not know that this woman, cool as a star, is both a glimmer of hope in his darkness and the sharpest sword hanging over his head. Each with their own agenda, the two are ordered to travel together to perilous Wushan and Jiangnan. Along the way, the bizarre rites to the “Wushan God” and a madman’s muttering that “the emperor killed the emperor” point toward the darkest heart of the dynasty. Yun Xi is torn between watching Xiao Yi and falling for him, while Xiao Yi’s faith crumbles between loyalty and the truth. As the prophecy closes in, they finally discover that the so-called “prophecy of the kingdom’s destruction” is nothing more than a carefully plotted self-fulfilling scheme by a regicide. In this endgame, where the fate of the world is at stake, Yun Xi must make her final choice: obey fate and kill him with her own hands, or defy heaven and gamble the little life she has left on a future for him?
