Karl, a top student in the auditing department of a finance university, is reborn in the world of pirates as the kingdom’s lowliest auditor.
From the start, he faces hellish difficulty: the king forcibly pushes through a policy of “replacing rice with mulberry,” trampling farmland just to produce silk and pay the World Government’s Heavenly Tribute! Public anger boils over, and the land is littered with the starving dead.
Faced with the mighty and powerful, his colleagues sneer, “You’re just an accountant. What do you think you can do?”
Karl silently opens his ledger, a cold stream of numbers flashing in his eyes. He sees debts from embezzlement coiling around the king, blood-soaked bad debts weighing on the general, and the entire World Government built upon a colossal illegal deficit!
So when the king’s blade turns toward the common people once again, Karl adjusts his glasses and calmly steps forward:
“Your Majesty, you may trample the farmland.”
“But those few secret funds in your budget, would you like me to… audit them thoroughly?”
“Or should I take this report to Marine Headquarters and ask them what sort of parasites their annual military budget is really supporting?”
My abacus rings across the four seas. My ledger is justice.
