I worshipped Buddha, and Buddha killed me.
From that day on, I was both Buddha and demon.
When Shen Yan, offered as a sacrifice, knelt before a Buddha statue in a ruined temple and begged for help, the response was not compassion, but a ruthless attempt to possess his body.
He survived against all odds, devoured the remnant soul of an ancient Buddha, and awakened the [Great Vow System].
People worship gods and pray to Buddha, while he grants their wishes and collects their price.
“Please, save me!” The wish is granted, and your cultivation belongs to me.
“May the wicked go to hell!” As you wish, your lifespan belongs to me.
He wears bloodstained monk’s robes, a cinnabar mark of compassion between his brows, and bears boundless sins of slaughter at his hands.
He teaches the deepest Buddhist truths and wields the most merciless force of thunder.
The orthodox immortal sects call him the “Buddha’s Enemy,” while the demons of the world call him the “Demon Lord.”
He merely smiles, holding a flower between his fingers, and challenges the gods and Buddhas above:
“They say, ‘Lay down the butcher’s knife and become a Buddha on the spot.’”
“Once I’ve killed everyone who deserves to die and flattened your hypocritical Mount Ling...”
“If you can sit on that Buddha’s throne, why can’t I?”
