Gu Xingzhou, a criminal investigator with the Dongjiang City police, has been labeled “too nitpicky and unable to adapt,” leaving him with no hope of promotion.
One night, after working overtime until dawn, he suddenly discovers that the crime scenes in his mind have turned into a detective drama being livestreamed.
There are comments in his head, a countdown, and future viewers furiously posting their complaints:
[This clearly isn’t a crime of passion!]
[Writer, stop using emotional instability as a lazy excuse!]
[Look, don’t let that line, “Don’t say that carelessly, or you’ll get me killed,” slip by!]
Something calling itself the “Bullet Comments Truth System” tells him:
“You have only three days to rewrite this ‘death caused by a romantic dispute’ script.”
From a “crime of passion” in a rented apartment to a high-rise fall from three years ago, from mysterious accounts in the Z series to a joint intercity investigation team…
Someone writes scripts for murder cases, and he tears them up;
Someone habitually writes “emotional instability” in case files, and he habitually adds a question mark beside it.
This isn’t an all-powerful wish-fulfillment story, and there’s no System that can clear someone’s name with a click.
There’s only a criminal investigator who writes question marks in case files, and a group of names that refuse to be swallowed by the script.
